5 Astrology Terms to Know
I thought today it would be fun to cover some ~astrology lingo~ that you might not know! This goes beyond the classic terms (“birth chart”, “trine”, “retrograde”, etc.) and takes us even deeper into astrology content. So, these would be terms that astrologers know… but the general public may not.
I’ll be doing these every so often, so be on the lookout for Part 2 in the future. Also, as you’re reading through, see how many terms you recognize. It might be a good test of your own knowledge 🤓 Let’s get started!
Cazimi
A cazimi occurs when a planet links up in a conjunction with the sun within 1°.
In the astrology world, conjunctions can have varying connotations. It really just depends on the planets and the signs the planets are in. But when planets conjoin the sun? It’s a great thing, typically. Since the sun represents life, this connection expands that signs “life force”. So, it enhances it to a degree. In a Mercury cazimi, our mind is supercharged with ideas, goals, and mental breakthroughs. With a Jupiter cazimi, get ready for the luckiest and abundant day ever!
Void moon
A void moon occurs when the moon does not aspect any other planet.
Here’s the thing: the moon moves FAST. It changes signs every 2.5 days. Because it’s moving one degree forward every few hours (as opposed to every month like Saturn), it has many opportunities to connect with the planets around it. So, when it’s NOT touching a planet in a conjunction/square/opposition/trine, it’s a bit of a rare occurrence that doesn’t last long.
Void moons typically last a few hours. There are times, however, where they last full days. The general rule of thumb during these void moons is to avoid putting things out into the ether. This would include sending out resumes, sending important emails, sharing private information, or releasing details about something important. I’m telling you: It won’t land where it’s supposed to… 😂 it’ll get misplaced or overlooked or whatever!
Secondary Progression: Day-for-a-Year
A reading method that shows a “developed” birth chart to reflect psychological and maturity development over time. It moves planets in your chart one day, for each year of your life. So, if you were born on June 18, 1985… When you turn one year old, your birth chart would move to June 19, 1985.
Progressions essentially represent the development of a birth chart. It asks the question: What would our birth chart look like NOW if it were not a stagnant entity? The birth chart we have shows what our path was when we were born, but if it continued to move, evolve, and develop, what would it say about who we are today… and in the future?
There are two main types of progressions: Secondary and Solar Arc.
As the title says, secondary progression will rotate your chart one day forward, for every year that you live. This
Solar Arc Progression: Degree-for-a-Year
A reading method that shows a “developed” birth chart to reflect psychological and maturity development over time. It moves planets 1° forward for each year of your life.
The reason it’s called “solar arc” is because it’s based on the fact that the sun moves about 1° per day, so the rest of the planets should follow this logic in the birth chart as well.
This type of progression is less common than secondary progressions. However, with solar arc progressions, you’re able to move the generational planets forward (Saturn, Neptune, Pluto, Uranus, Jupiter) in addition to the personal planets. If you live for 90 years, your birth chart moves only 80 days forward… which would not move any of the generational planets forward. With solar arc, you’d move each planet 90 degrees forward—which is 3 signs ahead!
It’s honestly a personal preference. However, if I were to choose, I would go for secondary progressions.
Supermoon
A naturally occurring phenomenon when the full moon occurs extremely close to Earth—thus, making the moon appear much bigger in the sky.
There’s nothing all that special about supermoons. The name sounds cool, but it really is just another full moon. There may be something to say about it’s energetic effect on us down here, with it being so close to us. But more likely, it would just enhance our intuition and emotions slightly more than a regular full moon.
